Well I love OO patterns (or at least the “promise” they represent.) I read a good blog entry today on the idea of WebPatterns. Basic idea is that after looking at the markup structure for 1,300 websites, 5,000 different class/id’s were used. There are no conventions or standard values, and subsequently none of the benefits that could be derived from such standards. What to do? Maybe, participate in this wiki. Maybe just wait until other people do the hard work in this area, but keep an eye out for it. Or maybe look at your own work—from project to project can you standardize your naming conventions to a greater degree?
