Too much HGTV for our 3 yr old

November 16, 2006

So a show comes on, Isabella (almost 4) asks “Are they going to buy that house and then sell it?” “No Isabella, this one they are trying to decide which of the three houses they want.” We laugh and ask her if she knows what it means to “flip a house” (having fun with this…) She doesn’t, so we tell her that’s when you buy and sell it real quick, hoping she’ll use the term in the future. (She’s already got an amazing vocabulary, as the next part of this story will illustrate…)

So the couple is looking at their 2nd house, Isabella says “Oh, that’s a nice garden tub!” And we are laughing now, she’s drinking in the attention.

The couple goes outside to the backyard, and the father says “wow this is a nice backyard.” Perhaps it is for Texas, but I said out loud “look at how patchy the grass is!” Isabella says softly, “They need to get some sod.”

Shannon is practically crying at that point (laughing). I think it’s a mix of pride for how great Isabella’s vocabulary is, and self-realization that Isabella watches A LOT of HGTV with her.
